Rates    The D’Entrecasteaux Channel & Bruny Island    Location Map

Our on-the-water kayak centre is located in one of Tasmania's prime Sea Kayaking locations; the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Leaving from our docks, you can easily spend 3 or more days paddling this area encountering Fairy Penguins, Sea Eagles, Stingrays, Seals and even Dolphins, all of whom call the channel home.

We can advise you on the best campsites (all without surf landings) and help you with route decisions according to prevailing weather. Or, if you prefer, you can also take our kayaks away and explore Tassie's many other kayaking venues. Please feel free to ask our staff for recommendations.

The Fine Print: Roaring 40's requires that all rental participants are able to swim. For rentals outside of Little Oyster Cove, it is required that participants have previous kayaking experience. For rental clients paddling to Bruny Island, it is required that participants are well versed in proper open water rescue procedures. Roaring 40's Ocean Kayaking reserves the right to limit venues or refuse rental clients.

THE D’ENTRECASTEAUX CHANNEL & BRUNY ISLAND

D’Entrecasteaux ChannelWe believe the D'Entrecasteaux Channel is Australia's best Multi-day Sea Kayaking venue for less experienced paddlers. Within its 60km length the scenery changes from rural grazing land in the North, to remote beaches and wild coastal scenery in the South.

The greatest reassuring aspect of a kayaking trip in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel is the abundance of sheltered and safe landing sites with the absence of surf. Within a few hours paddle of our Kettering base lies a small island campsite. The perfect place to pitch the tent for a peaceful and secluded evening.

The water is crystal clear and abundant in both bird and sea life. There is no end of Oysters, Mussels and tasty fish for your campfire feasts. If you take the plunge, a vast array of starfish, fish or perhaps a Leafy Sea Dragon will await you! In the summer the water temperatures get to around 20°C.

With a magnificent and expansive waterway accessible right from our docks in Kettering, you are limited simply by your time and desire to explore. We look forward to sharing Tasmania's stunning coastal scenery with you.
